Day 0 - Swindon - Sennen (Land's End)
Friday 21/05/2021
------------------------------
Well, we finally made it to the start-line. After the usual last minute rush of packing and re-packing due to Konrad's last-minute arrival we finally left at lunchtime (as soon as I could finish work). Konrad is really loaded-up with all hard and soft-luggage rammed full, but he managed to chug along OK.
It was chucking down with rain from the moment I started loading the luggage onto Konrad's bike. We thought that it would be more enjoyable to ride down the A303 rather than go on the motorway, but the wind and rain was pretty relentless and the road was gridlocked much of the way down.
We stopped in Exeter for a coffee at Konrad's place before getting back onto the A30 to complete the journey through more rain and wind. The last bit of the run into Sennen was great - nice roads and it was dry.
We met Nathan and some of the other group members in the pub where we had a drink and some food. Dave was travelling with his dog called Dave in a sidecar outfit (picture below). I was a bit worried about putting the tent up in the dark but Nathan introduced us to Tiffany, a fellow bike traveller who kindly offered to put us all up for the night! So generous and much better that tenting in this weather after such a long day. The kindness of strangers is something you don't often get to experience in our society.
Tomorrow morning we set-out from Land's End on our slow journey to the North lands.
Glad you made it through the first part despite the rain and winds. Hopefully the weather will calm a bit for the rest of the journey. Enjoy yourselves. Looking forward to the next report
